Chanticleers Theatre continues its 75th anniversary season with the opening of You Should Be So Lucky by Charles Busch.
You Should Be So Lucky tells the story of Christopher (Scott Dai), a shy and socially awkward electrologist whose quiet life takes an unexpected turn when he befriends Mr. Rosenberg (Bruce Kaplan), a recently widowed billionaire. Through this unlikely friendship, Christopher is introduced to New York’s high society, where he meets Walter (Joel A. S. Butler), a charismatic publicist with a fascination with death.
Just as Christopher begins to find his footing in this new world, tragedy strikes. A freak accident claims Mr. Rosenberg’s life, and Christopher is stunned to learn that he has been left a sizable share of the billionaire’s fortune. The inheritance, however, comes with complications—chief among them, Rosenberg’s daughter Lenore (Dawn Cates), who fiercely challenges the will.
Adding to the chaos are Polly (Larissa Kasian), Christopher’s dramatic and outspoken sister, and Wanda Wang (Ellen Yau), a popular talk show host who thrives on sensational stories. Together, this colorful cast of characters navigates a whirlwind of comedy, greed and self-discovery in Busch’s signature blend of wit and heart.
As Chanticleers Theatre celebrates 75 years of storytelling, You Should Be So Lucky serves as a reminder of the importance of community and the shared experience of live performance. For decades, Chanticleers has brought neighbors together to laugh, reflect and connect through theatre—an art form that thrives only with the support of its audience.
You Should Be So Lucky was selected as part of Chanticleers Theatre’s 2026 lineup after winning the Audience Choice vote. If theater-goers haven’t been to Chanticleers since before the pandemic or if they’ve never been at all their first ticket is only $10.
