Niles Main Street Association (NMS), a nonprofit community organization, is marking its 30th anniversary with a full season of events in the historic Niles District, from the Altar Walk through the Festival of Lights Parade and into the holiday shopping season.
Movie nights return to the Essanay Silent Film Museum with The Big Lebowski on Friday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 9pm. Doors open at 6pm, and the feature screens at 7pm. Tickets are $10. Wear your favorite bathrobe—you could win a prize for Best Bathrobe! The Silent Film Museum is at 37417 Niles Blvd. in Fremont.
The season continues with the Niles Altar Walk on Saturday, Nov. 7, a beloved Niles tradition honoring loved ones with altars throughout the district.
The season’s cornerstone arrives Friday, Nov. 27, with the 25th annual Niles Festival of Lights Parade. The day grows into a full festival beginning at 2pm, with vendors, sponsors and Santa, ahead of the 6pm tree lighting and the 6:30pm parade along Niles Boulevard. Last year more than 30,000 people attended.
The celebration continues into Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 28.
Celebrate NMS’s 30th year as a community organization at a holiday-themed event on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 5pm at the Niles Train Depot, with photo ops with Santa and, who knows, maybe a holiday-themed Sip & Stroll too.
