Starting October 26, The San Leandro Players will present “The Madwoman of Chaillot” by Jean Giraudoux, (adapted by Maurice Valency and directed by Daniel Dickinson). This comic fantasy centers around a plot to dig up the streets of Paris and pump oil. The plot is challenged by the “Madwoman,” an idealist who resolves to fight back and rescue humanity from the scheming and corrupt developers. Written in 1943 during the Nazi occupation of France, The Madwoman of Chaillot has remained remarkably up-to-date. Today, the play speaks of environmental concerns, the destruction of the natural world and the dangers of authoritarianism.
Cast includes: Denise Anguiano, Karen Barbera, Dan Buchalter, Geoffrey Colton, Mark DeWeese, Dana M. Fry Ed.D., Nikolas Greene, Terry Guillory, Bruce Kaplan, DD Langley, Flannery Mays, Rob Mueller, Monte Paulsen, Paul Pedersen, Tiare Pena, Sophia Ruggiano
This play is produced by arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection (www.dramatists.com). Masks are recommended.
