As of July 2026, former Fremont Mayor Lily Mei is the new President and CEO of Newark Chamber of Commerce. Mei joined Fremont City Council in 2014 and served as Mayor from 2016 to 2024, filling out her term limit. Back in May of this year, Mei co-led the first Newark Asian Heritage Festival at NewPark Mall.
A chamber press release says their goal is to work “hand in hand with Union City and Fremont to strengthen the Tri-City area as a whole.”
Mei’s first-100-day priorities include holding a Chamber Listening Tour to hear insights from chamber members, the city council and local organizations; strengthening partnerships across the Tri-Cities and elevating Newark’s visibility in the Tri-Cities.
Lily Mei also ran for California State Senate in 2022, but lost to Aisha Wahab.

Tri-City Voice, why aren’t you investigating Teresa Hoang, President of the Fremont Chamber who is currently under FBI investigation? She put together the Vietnam business trip, worked for Evolutionary Homes and CalWaste Solutions that she fails to mention that she worked at before leading the Fremont Chamber.
