It’s time to study anatomy with Fremont Area Writers—the anatomy of a short story, that is. At the Sept. 26 free Zoom meeting, novelist and short story writer Margaret Lucke will discuss how to recognize an idea that will work as a short story.
She will then dig into the bones of a story—characters, setting and plot—and how to use them to hook the reader, move the story along and determine the proper length for each story idea. In addition, she will explain how to find markets that publish short stories.
Growing up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C., Lucke was enchanted by the power of stories. When she was four years old, she announced that for her dad’s birthday she would give him a book that she had written and illustrated herself. It was called We Are Going to a Birthday Party.
She has published more than 60 short stories and novels. Her most recent novels are House of Desire: A Claire Scanlan Haunted House Mystery and Snow Angel: A Jess Randolph Mystery.
Fremont Area Writers sponsors speakers, write-ins and a salon all on Zoom. Meetings are free and writers of all levels are welcome. Participants do not need to live in Fremont to attend.
