Oyama Miller paints with fabric

Artist demos how she crafts her landscape quilts for Olive Hyde Art Guild program

Olive Hyde Art Guild (OHAG) will host a demonstration by local textile and mixed-media artist Denise Oyama Miller on Thursday, May 28. The event will offer a unique look into the process of converting fabric into picturesque landscapes.

A resident of Fremont and a UC Berkeley mathematics graduate, Oyama Miller spent years in information technology before transitioning to her studio practice full-time. She describes her work as “painting with scissors.” Her quilts are meticulously crafted through hand-dyeing, printing and layering to form vivid landscapes. Drawing inspiration from her Japanese ancestry, her art reflects a deep reverence for nature.

Oyama Miller will demonstrate her technique by creating a small landscape from start to finish, guiding the audience through every step of her process. A selection of her completed quilts will also be on display. This will be the final OHAG program for the 2025-2026 year. Kindly

RSVP as there are limited spots available.
