It’s an evening that Agatha Christie might have invented although there will be no bodies, no suspects and no murders—only heavenly, yummy, glorious chocolate served up with a helping of competitive bingo.
Death by Chocolate will take place on Friday, November 1 at the Niles Canyon Mobile Estates. Proceeds go to the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) Ohlone College Scholarship Fund. The association has three main scholarship programs: $750 for two continuing students and one $4,000 scholarship for a transferring student from Ohlone to a college of the student’s choice.
The idea behind Death by Chocolate was hatched by AAUW member Randy Fewel. She saw a flyer while on vacation in Baja California, inviting folks to a Death by Chocolate bingo night.
“It sounded intriguing,” said Fewel, “and I thought it would be fun for our members. What was great about the venue we selected is it comes with a professional bingo caller—Laurie Percoco—who consented to do the honors at our AAUW event.”
Every bingo winner will get a chocolatey prize like bars, kisses or pretzels. AAUW members have created themed baskets for winners—for example, a Girl Scout basket with chocolates the girls are selling this year. Attendees can also purchase tickets for $1 that could lead to winning one of several themed baskets from AAUW’s interest groups. (Tickets can be purchased ahead of time from AAUW members.)
Along with chocolate there will be wine and other beverages. AAUW has obtained a gambling permit from the City of Fremont and because of it, young people under 18 cannot attend.
Bingo and chocolate lovers alike won’t want to miss this sweet and special night at the Niles Canyon Mobile Estates.
