On Saturday, Oct. 17, Ohlone Humane Society’s (OHS) Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will open its doors to the public to give them a behind-the-scenes look at wildlife care and conservation. This year’s event carries special significance, as earlier in 2026, OHS was designated as a California Nonprofit of the Year.
The open house is the only day each year when visitors can tour the facility and see how volunteers prepare animals to be re-released to their natural habitats. Visitors can learn about wildlife with live animal ambassadors. The center has just completed a refurbishment of all the outdoor animal enclosures, and visitors will be able to see the updates on the guided tour.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new unopened donations of large potty pads, laundry soap, paper towels, wet dog food, latex-free gloves or grocery and hardware store gift cards.

Other nature organizations will present at the event, including Tri-City Ecology Center, San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, San Francisco Estuary Institute. There will also be crafts for kids, prize drawings and goodie bags.
