Through Oct. 31, visitors to the Fremont Main Library will get to compare eleven rocket models from the United States, Russia, China and Europe, all standing side by side in a display case.
Dublin teen Saanvi Phaneendra started her Galactic Getaway project in 2024, inspired by hearing the sonic boom from a Starship test flight at Starbase, Texas. She ordered models internationally, dealing with delays and postal bans. Her displays have gone up around the Bay Area at libraries and schools, spanning Alameda, Santa Clara, Contra Costa and San Joaquin Counties.
“Most people never get to compare these rockets in one place, and I wanted Fremont families to have that chance for free,” shared Phaneendra via email.
She continues, “Every time the rockets go up, the same thing happens. Kids under 10 stop in their tracks. Adults ask if I built them. Then the questions start: Which one goes to the Moon? Why is Starship so much bigger? Those questions are exactly why libraries matter. They are free, open to everyone and already full of curious people. A child’s curiosity should not be limited by their zip code, and a public library is one of the few places where that is actually true.”
