July 20 and 21 are the dates for this year’s popular Japanese Bazaar at Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church (SACBC). Admission is free, and will include food, games, entertainment, a Japanese boutique, silent auction, raffle and more. This year, SACBC is introducing a Beer Garden, which will be a popular attraction for enjoying Japanese and domestic brews. As in previous years, there will be something for everyone, and FUN for the whole family.
Japanese Cuisine includes Chicken Teriyaki, Gyoza, Udon, Sushi & Manju. You can also choose Teri Burgers, Corn-On-The-Cob, Shave Ice & Sodas.
There will be games for kids and adults, including Demon Smash, Duck Pond, and other arcade games for children. The Silent Auction Booth will offer a chance to bid on many treasures and collectibles.
Activities will include O-Nami Taiko (Japanese Drums), Kendo, Ikebana exhibit, and Buddhism mini-lecture: Intro to Buddhism at 2pm, Saturday and Sunday, by Rev. Dr. Takashi Miyaji. The Japanese boutique offers handmade crafts, books and more.
Everyone is invited, and there is free parking on the grounds.
The SACBC temple was first built in the early 1960s, and our First Summer Japanese Bazaar was hosted soon after (1962). It is the continued support of families, friends, visitors and dedicated volunteers that allow us to offer this traditional highlight of summer to the community. Funds raised support SACBC and its affiliated organizations, including the Japanese Language School, Fujinkai/Buddhist Women’s Association, Jr. YBA, Dharma School, Choir, YABA, Boy Scouts and O’ Nami Taiko (drums) group, and programs for seniors and families.
