Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress on Monday, April 13 following multiple sexual assault allegations.

In a statement posted to Swalwell’s Instagram account on his behalf, the former Congressman “denies each and every allegation of sexual misconduct and assault that has been leveled against him.”
Swalwell, who announced his campaign for California governor in November 2025, suspended his campaign on Sunday, April 12 following the allegations.
In another social media post shared on Monday, April 13, Swalwell said, “Expelling anyone in Congress without due process, within days of an allegation being made, is wrong. But it’s also wrong for my constituents to have me distracted from my duties. Therefore, I plan to resign my seat in Congress.”
