Ohlone College’s renowned Theatre and Dance department is proud to present “Shakespeare in Love,” a stage adaptation by Lee Hall, based on the Oscar-winning film by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard. This production not only showcases the extraordinary talents of Ohlone students, but also underscores the vibrant role of the arts in shaping the bright futures of our community.
“Shakespeare in Love” tells the story of young Will Shakespeare, a playwright struggling with writer’s block as the deadline for his new play looms. Inspiration strikes when he meets the spirited Viola, a woman determined to break societal norms by performing on stage, a place reserved only for men. Their whirlwind romance unfolds amidst mistaken identities, cunning plots and the vibrant life of the Elizabethan theater, leading Will to create one of his greatest works of art.
This production exemplifies Ohlone College’s commitment to fostering creativity and providing students with opportunities to shine both on and off the stage. From the actors bringing the characters to life to the dedicated crew working behind the scenes, every student involved plays a crucial role in making this performance a success. Additionally, the presence of students in the audience, many of whom are experiencing live theater for the first time, highlights the transformative power of the arts in education.
