Niles is “going to the dogs” and everyone’s invited. Fetch some fun for the whole family at the 26th Annual “No Pedigree? No Problem!” Dog Show benefiting Furry Friends Rescue and Niles Main Street Association (NMSA) on Saturday, July 18, at Niles Community Park.
Registration and $10 pancake breakfast begin at 9am. The first judged contest begins at 10am.
The event celebrates all ages, sizes and breeds of dogs with a variety of contests and activities for everyone to enjoy. Lighthearted competitive classes invite dogs to strut their stuff: Best Costume, Best Dog/Owner Lookalike and Most Unusual Mix, with Prettiest Female and Handsomest Male contests divided into Small (under 45 pounds) and Large (45 pounds and over) divisions. First-place winners from each of these contests will vie for the coveted “Best in Show” award. Must be present to win.

Pre-register your pooch at niles.org/dog-show for a discount available through 12pm on Thursday, July 16. Fees are $25 for online pre-registration or $30 for show day in-person registration. This enters one dog for one class; additional classes are just $5 each.
Two fun bonus contests are very popular with no registration required. For a suggested $1 donation, you’ll get 30 seconds to encourage your canine companion to provide Most Tail Wags or Most Kisses (to you).
This year, two new emcees join the center ring: Niles resident Walker Sakaki and Mary Diaz from 99.7 NOW will be sharing mic duties with NMSA president Krysten Laine and Niles resident and beloved regular Bill Cantrel.
Not interested in the show ring? Check out food vendors and raffle prizes, the doggy water park, pose with your buddy at the Hawgs for Dogs giant inflatable pooch and tour the information and vendor booths with products for human and doggy enjoyment. For the kids, face painting and stickers are available for a suggested donation of $1 each.
There will be three presentations to show what you and your dog can do along with working dogs in our community. HOPE AACR will share about their job as pet therapy handlers during disasters; DoggED will show how they can help teach dogs to communicate using buttons and Fremont Police K9 units will give demonstrations—if not called away on business.
The Rescue Dog Parade shows off many adoptable pooches from the eight rescue associations that will be joining. Dedicated volunteers will be on-site to answer questions, and you might find your next best friend.
