Logan High hosts all league teams

Moreau Catholic shines on the track and field

The Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) track and field runners, jumpers and throwers gathered at James Logan High School in Union City on Saturday, April 18.

The meet started with the 1600 meter—or mile—run. In the girl’s varsity, Leah Eberly of Moreau Catholic High School claimed the event’s first place spot with 6:10.72. The boy’s 1600 winner was Mohammad Iqbal of Mission San Jose with a time of 4:46.28, over 10 seconds faster than the rest of the pack. 

In the fast-paced 4×100 relay, Moreau Catholic came out on top again, not only for the girls team but the boys team as well, coming in 50.26 and 43.68, respectively.

In the long distance 800 event, the girls finish was close with Mission San Jose’s Kaylin Teo and Moreau Catholic’s Emily Barillas battling for the first place finish. Ultimately, Teo clenched first with 2:24.20 and Barillas second place with 2:24.87. In the boys 800, junior Santiago Henriquez took first with a time of 1:58.80.

Throughout the day, field events were also in full swing. Mecca Taylor of Moreau Catholic secured 4-10.00 high jump, securing her first place spot. In the boys high jump, James Logan’s Jayden Marin marked a 6-00.00 jump at first place.
