Eagle Scout candidate Elanor Choi is leading a community service project aimed at helping under-resourced children gain access to sports equipment and opportunities for physical activity.
The Sports Day and Equipment Drive is being conducted as Choi’s Eagle Scout service project and will benefit families served through Brides Community Church and the Compassion Network. Organizers are encouraging the Fremont community to come together to help ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of financial circumstances.
The Sports Day and Equipment Drive will collect new and gently used sports equipment for local families who may not have the resources to purchase their own. Donated items will be distributed free of charge during the Sports Day event on Saturday, July 11 at Bridges Community Church in Fremont.
In addition to the equipment giveaway, children ages five through 12 will have the chance to participate in a free sports camp featuring basketball and soccer instruction with team mentorship from volunteers.
The project’s goal is to collect at least 150 pieces of new or gently used sports equipment.
Community members can also support the project by donating sports equipment or purchasing items directly through the project’s Amazon Wish List. Donations purchased through the wish list will be shipped directly for distribution to local children and families. Donations are accepted through early July.
