Barnes & Noble comes to Pacific Commons

Bookseller is scheduled for a November 2026 opening in Fremont shopping center

By the end of the year, Pacific Commons shopping center in South Fremont will gain a Barnes & Noble bookstore, moving into a 24,638 square foot space formerly occupied by DSW (which has moved to a smaller location in the same block). Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan shared on his official Instagram that the store is scheduled for a November opening.

A Pacific Commons location puts distance between the Barnes & Noble and the downtown Half Price Books and independent bookstore Banter Bookshop. Fremont’s former Barnes & Noble on Mowry Avenue closed in 2010, per East Bay Times. That location competed with the nearby Borders in the Fremont Hub (which closed the next year). Ironically, Half Price Books was located in Pacific Commons before moving to Fremont Hub in 2012. The trail of bookstores in downtown Fremont looks like a great reshelving.
