Two Hawardians and one Fremonter have been honored at the Alameda County Arts Leadership Awards. The eight winners were announced in a press release on Sept. 17. Nominations were submitted by the public and reviewed by the Alameda County Arts Commission.
Margaret Thornberry, the winner from District 1, has been active in the arts for 25 years. She has served multiple terms as Fremont Cultural Arts Council present and helped found Fremont Creates.
In Hayward, Dorsi Diaz and Garl Gorringe tied as recipients. Both have worked with Sun Gallery, and Gorringe has also worked with the Hayward Lit Hop.
There will be a ceremony recognizing all the winners at the County Board of Supervisors meeting on Oct. 6, at 3pm. Members of the public may attend the meeting at the Board Chambers at 1221 Oak St., 5th floor, Oakland. Or they can watch the ceremony via livestream at bos.alamedacountyca.gov.
