As summer winds down, Downtown Hayward is gearing up for a fall filled with sports, community events, local flavors and plenty of reasons to gather. From getting ready to cheer on the Bay Area’s favorite teams to discovering new and returning restaurants at Taste of Hayward, there’s something exciting happening around every corner this September and beyond.
Sharks Hockey
The San Jose Sharks are bringing their energy to Downtown Hayward this fall with a special pop-up experience designed to celebrate the team and its connection to fans throughout the Bay Area.
Through Oct. 2, Casa del Toro will feature a San Jose Sharks photo opportunity, with a wall on the exterior of the building decorated in Sharks-inspired style. The nearby movie theater lights will also glow blue and white throughout the activation, creating a fun backdrop for photos.
Downtown Hayward, in partnership with the San Jose Sharks, also put on a community watch party at Heritage Plaza on Sept. 20.
Downtown Hayward Art Walk
The community is invited to participate in the Downtown Hayward Art Walk on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11am to 3pm. Attendees are welcomed to enjoy artworks for sale by local artists at several local businesses in Downtown Hayward including Books on B, Concha Dreams, Dirty Bird, HAHS Museum, Ska Dog Music Depot, Snappy’s Café, Stack Records, Storybook and Vintage Alley. Stop by because who knows? You might leave with a new piece of art.
Sports Destination
The excitement doesn’t stop with hockey. With the NFL season kicking off in September, basketball preseason getting underway and the Golden State Warriors and Valkyries gearing up for their season, Downtown Hayward is becoming a go-to destination for sports fans.
Local businesses are already embracing the energy. After a summer of gathering to watch the World Cup, many restaurants and bars have invested in TVs and expanded their ability to host watch parties and accommodate sports fans. Some are even extending their hours to make it easier to catch Sunday morning football with friends, grab a bite before a game or settle in for an evening basketball matchup.
Taste of Hayward
Foodies have another reason to look forward to fall with the return of Taste of Hayward on Oct. 22 from 4 to 8pm.
This year’s event will spotlight some of the newest restaurants in Downtown Hayward alongside local favorites making their return. Hoping to bring together 25 to 30 participating businesses, Taste of Hayward offers guests the chance to sample a wide variety of flavors while discovering the businesses that make Downtown Hayward’s dining scene so unique.
