Celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States and 80th India Independence Day. Honoring the land we made our home and the roots and culture of our country of origin.
These are the key tenets of 34th Festival of Globe (FOG) India Day Parade and Fair, held the weekend of Aug. 15 and 16 in downtown Fremont.
The free India Day Grand Parade is on Sunday, at 11am. The best location for viewing the parade is at the cross section of Walnut Avenue and Paseo Padre Parkway. Bollywood heartthrobs Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani will be the parade grand marshals.
The India Day Fair will showcase dance and music performances. Over 250 local dance groups will compete in classical, folk, Bollywood, contemporary, hip-hop and more.
This year, close to 15 groups representing Jewish, Buddhist, Nepalese, Burmese, Korean, Filipino and Taiwanese are expected to participate in the parade.
Thousands of people are expected to join the weekend’s festivities. There will be cultural programs, a free wellness fair, food fest, kids’ activities. Seven food trucks will serve a variety of Indian cuisines.
