According to a press release, on Friday, July 24, at approximately 3:38pm, Fremont Police dispatch received multiple calls regarding a suspect holding a firearm and carrying a duffle bag inside the Aegis Living, a senior home facility on Walnut Avenue in Fremont.
The suspect was last seen in a meeting room of the facility, holding two people hostage. Multiple police officers were at the scene and were able to locate the suspect. During the interaction an “officer-involved shooting” occurred.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported.
The incident investigation has been handed over to the Department of Justice. This is an ongoing and active investigation.
