Mission Valley Athletic League track and field season came to a head on May 8 and May 9 for the championship meet. The meet championship was held at Tak Fudenna Memorial Stadium at Washington High School in Fremont.
Field events took over Tak Stadium. In the long jump pit, Logan’s Leilani Prater marked a 16-08.75 for her first place spot in the girls varsity group. In the boys varsity group two more James Logan Colts claimed first and second place. Steven Swamy with 16-08.75 and Shylon Green Jr just behind with 21-09.00.
James Logan continued to show up high on the scoreboard in the varsity shot put event. In the girls varsity group, Na’ima Ratliff and Salome Leao secured the top two spots throwing a distance of 34-03.00 and 31-00.00, respectively. In the boys shot put lone American Eagle, Kai Uk took first with 45-08.00, while second place went to another Colt Luis Lucio with 42-05.00.
On the track, the meet opened the 4×100 relay. James Logan sprinters took hold of first place both in the girls and boys race, with final times of 49.23 and 43.39, respectively.
In the classic mile race, Newark Memorial’s Alice McCarty and Santiago Henriquez of Moreau Catholic continue to hold the first place spots in the 1600 meter long-distance race. McCarty timed in at 5:19.50 and Henriquez at 4:22.63.
The 200-meter sprint brought excitement as the top finisher crossed the finish line nearly side by side. James Logan’s Essence Anderson-Brown and Jordynn Hughes of Moreau Catholic came in close at the finish with times of 25.56 and 25.73, respectively. In the boys 200, America High School’s Aden Zhang secured first place with a time of 22.79 and Newark Memorial’s Jacob Marshall took second with 22.91.
