Image Central holds spring show

Photos from 25 artists will be on display at Hayward gallery

ImageCentral opens its much-anticipated 39th Annual Spring Exhibition on Monday, April 20, and the center’s director, Frederick Watkins, promises that this year’s show will be  the best yet, as it highlights the work of more than 25 emerging and established  photographers from the Bay Area.

“It’s a wonderful collection of landscape, portrait, architecture, nature, and event  photography,” says Watkins.

Begun in 1987, this seasonal exhibition brings together film and digital photographers  whose images display a wide range of contemporary photographic styles. The show, as  always, is free admission.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday, April 25, from 1 to 4pm. Guests who attend the reception will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite photograph as part of the People’s Choice competition. Visitors are welcome to  purchase photographs, and pricing information will be available at the  exhibition. The show ends its run on Friday, June 5.

ImageCentral, which boasts two gallery spaces, is located at 1099 E Street, Hayward. Lower Gallery hours are Monday evenings, 5 to 9pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11am to 2pm; and by appointment. Upper Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays, 11am to 4pm.

Watkins  says, “ImageCentral welcomes interested creatives, no matter if  you are new to photography or a longtime image maker, to participate in our photographic and visual arts classes, workshops, memberships, and events offered through the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.).

“We have outstanding facilities, including a traditional darkroom with film development and printmaking equipment, as well as a digital imaging space with scanners and large format printers. For photographers who want to add a professional touch to their finished images, we  also have a matting and mounting workspace, and more!”
