Downtown Hayward businesses send off 2025

Celebrate Kwanzaa at city hall or mark the New Year at a favorite old venue

The end of the year is approaching, and Downtown Hayward is celebrating the season with an exciting lineup of places to visit, things to do and celebrations to join before ringing in 2026.

New Year, New Businesses

As Downtown Hayward continues to experience significant economic momentum, 2026 is poised to build on the neighborhood’s growing business landscape. Several new establishments are preparing to open their doors, reflecting both the area’s rising commercial investment and its ongoing appeal to entrepreneurs and consumers alike.

Storybook is set to invite guests into the new year. Taking over the former Pizza House space, Storybook will introduce a vibrant menu inspired by California Mediterranean cuisine, featuring fresh seasonal ingredients, bold coastal flavors and a delicious selection of pizzas.

Expanding from the beloved Rummi Mart, the upcoming Rummi Bakery will be soon ready to greet the community with an array of international baked goods and drinks. From fresh Afghani bread to sweet and savory grab and go bites, the bakery will bring a distinctive global flair to the downtown scene.

Rolla Cabin, formerly Wakamatsu, recently transitioned to new ownership, bringing renewed energy to the restaurant. The beloved sushi spot still serves the same delicious Japanese and Chinese dishes that have long drawn in customers, but now patrons can also enjoy new additions like pan-fried dumplings, grilled beef, mushrooms and freshly made buns.

New Year’s in Hayward

With an abundance of restaurants and bars suited for families and young adults looking for a memorable night out, Downtown Hayward offers an inviting setting to bid farewell to 2025 and welcome 2026.

Susie Q’s boasts a welcoming atmosphere and comforting homemade dishes. The menu features flavorful favorites such as the Mediterranean, topped with chicken, olives, tomato, feta, garlic and pesto, and the Foothill Special with pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, olives, garlic and corn.

A Downtown Hayward landmark since 1983, Buffalo Bills continues to shine with its refreshed look that maintains its classic charm. The lively interior and wide dinner and beverage menu keep guests returning. With social hours, DJs, game nights and other activities, it remains a favorite gathering place for both families and young adults ending the year on a high note.

For adults looking for something distinctive, The Dirty Bird offers an agave focused experience with more than 150 tequilas and 14 mezcals. Guests can enjoy Latin-inspired cocktails made with housecrafted ingredients along with bar favorites such as buffalo meatballs and empanadas. The ambiance blends restaurant style service with a warm and comfortable atmosphere and a touch of nightclub sophistication.

Craft Pizzeria continues to draw a loyal following with its irresistible aroma and energetic environment. This family-friendly destination offers classic pizzas, calzones and a variety of American favorites. The celebration continues next door at Sector 19, an immersive arcade filled with games and entertainment that makes it an ideal spot for kids to enjoy New Year’s Eve.

Since opening its doors in 1994, The Bistro has grown into Hayward’s go-to spot for craft brews, live shows, beer events, quality wines, tasty bites and good times. That familiar warmth is what has made us a second home for the neighborhood for more than 20 years.

Coming Up Next

Fayeth Gardens will host the 3rd Annual Kwanzaa Celebration on Dec. 28 from 12 to 5pm at Hayward City Hall.
