Union City police respond to possible kidnapping attempt

Eleven-year-old student managed to escape unharmed from hooded man

Union City police were dispatched to Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at approximately 8:15am after being called regarding a suspicious incident involving a student.

An 11-year-old female student reported being approached by a male subject while she rode her scooter to school. The subject grabbed the hood of the victim’s sweatshirt and attempted to pull her. The student managed to get away unharmed and reported the incident to school staff members who then called the police. 

The subject was described by the victim as a tall, heavy-set man wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled up and a mask covering his face. The subject may be associated with a dark-colored sedan.

According to the description provided by the victim, the incident occurred in the area of Dyer Street and Meteor Drive.

Union City police officers and investigators are surveying the area and reviewing potential surveillance video that may have captured the incident.
