The Lions Club of Hayward Silicon Valley recently donated $5K to Canine Companions, a group that provides service animals to disabled individuals at no cost. “We are so excited to incorporate animal assistance into our efforts, for humanity,” said Khush Bodhan, club’s foundation President. The Code Warriors First Lego League (FLL) Robotics team — aimed at kids ages 11-13 in Fremont— have been busy working on environmental and community initiatives. Through lemonade stands, an ocean themed fundraiser dubbed Coral Cove Carnival and several outreach events the club raised over $2,000. The funds will be used for an ocean conservation project in collaboration with Sunflower Star Laboratory. The team looks forward to working further with the laboratory in the future.
The club also participated at this year’s Coastal Cleanup Day, beautifying Lake Elizabeth.

Hayward Area Historical Society’s (HAHS) “Day of the Dead” exhibit has returned this fall. In partnership with Hayward Arts Council, 25 local artists will display their work at the HAHS museum through November 4. The exhibit includes craft activities each Saturday: making tissue paper marigolds, foil art, monarch butterflies, skeletons and skull masks. And on Saturday, October 19, the museum will host an artisan pop-up. The exhibit is supported by the AWS InCommunities Fund.
