On Sunday, July 21, the City of Newark will hold its 10th annual Mariachi Festival, a chance for the community to immerse themselves in the sounds of local bands and honor Newark’s Mexican-American heritage. The free summer afternoon event will occur in the beautiful Shirley Sisk Grove, off NewPark Mall Road, across from Jack’s Restaurant.
This year’s festival will showcase the talents of three local mariachi bands: Mariachi San Francisco, Mariachi Halcones and Mariachi Tapatio. All three feature accomplished performers with years of musical experience. Additionally, there will be a performance from Newark Children’s Ballet Folklorico dancers and Ballet Costa de Oro. The event will also feature a Resources and Health Fair, and Activities and Crafts for kids.
Gates will open at 11am for picnicking, so arrive early for the best spots. City of Newark Council Member Sucy Collazo will serve as the Master of Ceremonies during the Mariachi Festival. For more information, please contact Edda Rivera at ed***@ne****.org or (510) 578-4346.
