4th of July after party beats the heat

By Stephanie Gertsch

In spite of temperatures over 90 degrees, Fremont displayed 4th of July spirit with its yearly parade and after party featuring community organizations marching, riding floats and tending booths. Held at Fremont Downtown Event Center, the after party was a chance for people to learn about local nonprofits, and even sign up to volunteer with them.

Fremont Mayor Lily Mei said, “We do better when we work together. That’s why we wanted to have this opportunity for you to get to meet and know some of the fellow organizations and people that help our city thrive.” Fremont City Councilmembers Raj Salwan, Desrie Campbell, Teresa Keng, and Teresa Cox were also in attendance, and Supervisor David Haubert was an event sponsor.

Food truck mafia provided street food and shaved ice, and DJ music kept the vibes lively. Local groups also performed, including StarStruck Theatre, giving a preview for their summer musical Beauty and the Beast.

“We want to thank you for taking time on a hot July 4 to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, and recognize that this is only happening because of all of you,” said Mayor Mei.
