Fremont Area Writers (FAW) invites community members to step back from the political noise and visit a calmer universe of inspiration by joining the free Zoom Social Write-In on Nov. 9. Fremont Area Writers’ motto is “Writers Helping Writers.” Everyone from beginners to experienced authors is welcome to jump start their creativity by responding to writing prompts and then socializing with other people interested in writing. The Write-In is not a critique session. It is completely non-judgmental, and you do not need to live in Fremont to attend.
How the Zoom Write-In Works:
At the Write-In people will be randomly assigned to a Zoom room with three other writers. Writers are given several word or photo prompts. Choose a prompt and write whatever comes to mind for 10 minutes. At the end of the writing period, each person in the room reads their response to the prompt. Because the writing time is short, there is no expectation that the results will be polished or even complete. Time to chat with the other writers follows the readings. Writers are then reassigned to a different Zoom room with different people and a different writing challenge. Again, writers can share their responses followed by socializing.
The Write-In is sponsored by Fremont Area Writers, one of 21 branches of the California Writers Club. In addition to the Write-In, FAW meets on Zoom from 2pm to 4pm on the fourth Saturday of each month where guest speakers discuss various aspects of writing and publishing. The speaker at the Nov. 23 meeting is Jane Cleland, author of the acclaimed Josie Prescott mystery series. She will speak on using red herrings to distract readers. You do not need to live in Fremont to join the general meetings. Participation in either event is free. More information is available at https://cwc-fremontareawriters.org.
