Fremont Art Association (FAA) is delighted to have Candy Yu as the guest artist at its virtual General Meeting and Art Demo on Wednesday, September 4 at 1pm.
An avid and accomplished watercolorist, Yu enjoys painting on a variety of surfaces. Her exquisite body of work which includes a wide range of subjects is characterized by brilliant colors and intricate details. In her demo, “Watercolor Pet Portraits on YUPO Paper,” Yu will demonstrate how she brings her endearing pets to life by applying wet-on-wet technique to build up layers of colors in watercolor on YUPO paper.
Although Yu’s interest in art was sparked early during her primary school in Taiwan, it would not become central to her life until much later. It was after earning a degree from the National Taiwan University, her marriage and move to the U.S., subsequent graduate studies in computer science, and a career in the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley, that the time to pursue her creative endeavors would finally arrive. Upon enrolling in a watercolor class, Yu was immediately captivated by the medium. Beginning in 2002 and until 2007, while she worked with autistic children for the Berryessa School District, she incorporated art into their curriculum and continued to attend workshops and cultivate her deep passion in watercolor painting.
Today, Yu is actively engaged in her local art community. She is a member of East Valley Artists, the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, and the Chinese American Art Association. She is the recipient of numerous awards in juried shows for her watercolor paintings including Triton Museum’s AVArtFest and Midsummer Art Celebration, Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society member juried shows, and East Valley Artists Annual Shows and competitions.
