On Thursday, Sept. 18, at approximately 12:01pm, Fremont Police Officers responded to a report of an altercation at the 600 block of Upper Vintners Circle.
The reporting party advised that two subjects were fighting in front of a home. Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive subject on the ground. The victim was suffering from a significant stab wound. Officers immediately administered trauma care; however, the victim passed away at the scene. The other subject involved in the altercation was detained at the scene, and a knife was recovered.
Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit responded to assume the homicide investigation. The detained subject, identified as 29-year-old Varun Suresh of Fremont, was placed under arrest for murder. Based on investigative leads, we believe this is an isolated incident, where Suresh targeted the victim for specific reasons.
Detectives, crime scene investigators and officers continue to process the scene and follow up on additional background information. There is no threat to the community, and the subject remains in custody.
