This holiday season, SkillSprout is launching its Winter Equipment Drive to ensure that every young athlete in the SF Bay Area has the gear they need to play the sports they love. Running through Jan. 15, 2026, the drive is collecting equipment for basketball, soccer, baseball, golf, pickleball, football and tennis.
SkillSprout is a student-led nonprofit founded by Mission San Jose High School students who believe that financial barriers shouldn’t prevent kids from experiencing the transformative power of sports. Since launching in late 2023, the organization has donated over $47,000 worth of equipment to underserved youth athletes through partnerships with Oakland Unified School District, First Tee Tri Valley, East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring and other local organizations.
The winter drive aims to collect $10,000 worth of equipment to support 100 youth athletes. In just the first week, SkillSprout has already collected $2,200 in equipment donations—22% toward the goal. All donated equipment is tax-deductible, as SkillSprout is a registered 501(c)(3) charity.
Gently used or new sports equipment can make a large difference for families struggling with the rising costs of youth sports. Equipment donations will go directly to young athletes in need, helping them stay active and develop important life skills through athletics.
To donate equipment or learn more, visit skill-sprout.org and request a home equipment pick-up or drop-off at an arranged location.
