“Our fall season is going to pull from cultures and holiday traditions near and far and our two spring concerts and gala [will be], simply put, a rollicking good time filled with joy and jazz!”
Dr. Corie Brown, artistic director of the Mission Peak Chamber Singers (MPCS), gives audiences a sneak preview of a season that’s all about community and the love of singing.
She calls on all who love to sing, be they shower-singers, hummers in cars or belters in front of mirrors, to join the choir. Rehearsals are open for drop-in visits and the choir meets on Tuesdays at 7pm.
The ensemble’s first concert, “Holidays with Mission Peak,” will take place Dec. 7 at 7:30pm and Dec. 8 at 4pm at Niles Discovery Church. The candlelight event will feature seasonal preferences such as “Noche de Paz (Silent Night),” carols by Benjamin Britten and a brand-new choral version of Joni Mitchell’s holiday classic “River.” And, yes, audiences will be encouraged to sing along with their favorites throughout the evening.
Dr. Brown continues to lift the curtain on future concerts: a first-ever “Cabaret Concert” on Mar. 15 and “Give My Regards to Broadway” on May 3.
“The season’s repertoire,” said Dr. Brown, “was selected based on feedback from patrons and singers. I asked patrons what they wanted to hear, and singers what themes were present in their lives. We look forward to seeing you at rehearsal or in the audience. Without each other and music, our lives would not be complete.”
