Semi truck strikes and kills cyclist Jan. 2

Collision on Osgood Road marks Fremont’s first fatal traffic incident of 2026

A semi truck struck and killed a cyclist around noon on Friday, Jan. 2 near the 44000 block of Osgood Road. This marks the city’s first fatal traffic collision of 2026.

In a preliminary investigation, police assessed that the truck was traveling north on Osgood Road, turning left into a driveway using a center left turn lane. The cyclist was traveling south on the west side of Osgood, crossing the path of the turning semi truck. According to police the point of impact was the front driver’s side of the truck, meaning the cyclist had passed fully in front of the vehicle when the collision occurred.

Osgood Road has marked bike lanes on both sides.

The cyclist passed away from injuries at the scene.

In a press release, Fremont Police said the truck driver remained on the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. The cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police do not suspect drug or alcohol impairment as a contributing factor.
