The Primavera Century—an Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club (FFBC) event for over 50 years—will be on Sunday, April 19. Come out and ride!
We have a ride for everyone. There are three different long distance routes for the more experienced cyclist, a medium distance ride with hills and a shorter, flat ride for those who just want to have fun. Pedal assisted ebikes are allowed on all rides (class 1 and 3). Here is what we offer:
Long-distance Routes: 100 miles, 85 miles, 100 km
Start time: 6:30 – 8am – $110
Calaveras Loop: 38 miles
Start time: 8:00 – 8:30am – $110
This is new this year – enjoy the beautiful views with fewer miles.
Fun Ride: 25 miles
Start time: 10 – 11am – $40 adult (16 and over), $20 child (15 and under)
Registration includes: Fully stocked rest stops with snacks, water and a place to rest; end of ride meal (choice amongst a number of food trucks); goodie bags; clothes drops for riders to take off extra layers at three rest stops (clothes will be transported to Ohlone); and medals for kids completing the Fun Ride. All rides provide support and gear should riders need assistance, bicycle mechanics at rest stops, transfers at no cost and the ability to change routes (except Fun Ride) during the ride.
The Distance Rides: These routes go through the same beautiful country. The route travels through vineyards south and west of the town of Livermore. There are several roads with bike/hike trails parallel to them. Feel free to ride them.
Calaveras Loop (New Route): We’ve listened to riders and have created a route between our Distant Rides and the Fun Ride. The Calaveras Loop is 38 miles with 2,400 feet of climbing—it is a nice moderate ride. The route is the same as the 100K but shorter by bypassing Palomares and Dublin Canyon and going directly to the Sunol rest stop via Niles Canyon. There will be a CHP presence in Niles Canyon to ensure safety. Riders will get to enjoy some of the finest scenery in all our rides along Calaveras Reservoir.
The Fun Ride: This ride will also start and end at Ohlone College, and it is a favorite. The ride goes along the Alameda County trail, and it is fully supported with SAG and a Rest Stop. It’s great for families and those new to cycling. Twenty-five miles seems like a lot to some, but with stops along the way for nourishment, mechanics at the start and half way and others to keep riders company, it is a wonderful experience.
All rides will finish the route along a stand of olive trees back at Ohlone College. A variety of food trucks will provide meal choices. Various beverages, including nonalcoholic beer, will be included. There will also be music provided by a small live band in Ohlone’s Palm Bosque for all to relax and bask in the shared experience of a great day of cycling.
The deadline to register is April 14. Visit the FFBC website at ffbc.org/primavera today to secure a spot.
