Ongoing issue with Republic Services

Fremont resident talks about issue receiving replacement yard waste bin

More than five weeks ago, during a scheduled green waste pickup, Republic Services accidentally dropped our green waste bin into their truck. A few days later, we called customer service and were told they did not have any replacement bins in stock and would need to order one. We were also told they would deliver temporary green waste bags so we could still manage our yard waste. Unfortunately, over a week passed and nothing was delivered.

During the second week, my husband called again and was told they still did not have a bin available. By the third week, I called again to ask why nothing had been delivered. At that time, the representative changed the explanation and said they did not have our specific bin size available.

I suggested they provide a different size bin temporarily and swap it later when the correct size becomes available. The representative said she would escalate the issue to the operations team and that we would receive a call the next day. It has now been two additional weeks, and we still have not received a call or a replacement bin.

Waste collection is a basic service that residents rely on, and we feel this situation has not been handled responsibly. We are especially concerned about the repeated delays, lack of follow-up, and changing explanations we have received.

We have lived in several other cities, and whenever a bin was lost or damaged, replacements were usually delivered within a few days. We have never experienced a situation where we had to go this long without a proper waste container.

Tolerating irresponsible handling by Republic Services is equivalent to allowing this behavior to continue and repeat, which ultimately affects many Fremont residents.
