This March, celebrate and uplift the community as Downtown Hayward turns 150 years old. Whether it is honoring Women’s History Month by stopping by the women-owned businesses or trying out a new spot in the neighborhood, all are great ways to spread the love.
Celebrating Women’s History Month
From shopping to dining, there is a women-owned business ready to welcome you. Local favorite Concha Dreams serves fresh, elevated conchas inspired by traditional Mexican recipes. For those seeking a healthy treat, Blend-It is a community spot that specializes in protein-packed treats, offering a place where people can connect and feel cared for.
Visitors can also try something new by exploring traditional South Korean flavors at Tangjip, where guests can come and enjoy the rich flavors of popular dishes or be adventurous and try something new, like marinated crabs.
No trip to Downtown Hayward is complete without a little bit of shopping! Aranea Craft Studio is Hayward’s yarn and fabric shop, taking on fast fashion one project at a time. Stop by to grab everything you need for your next project or learn a new skill at a community workshop.
Find your next read at Books on B, packed with new, used and rare reads for all. For a little something to bring the spring indoors, pick up a fresh bouquet from Dreamstate Florist. This new florist shop is a vibrant addition to the neighborhood offering simple floral arrangements to special occasion centerpieces.
New Face in the Neighborhood
The neighborhood is thrilled to welcome Butter Pecan Bakeshop, which opened its doors in February. During the pandemic, owner Wendell Hunter took his grandma’s “nut cake” recipe and perfected it as the bakeshop’s now signature Brown Butter Pecan Cookie. In the last few years, Wendell crafted a menu filled with buttery, delicious cookies developed and gained a loyal local following.
