Newark’s Vehicle & Accessory Theft Program

On June 12th, City of Newark Police Captain Jolie Macias spoke to the Optimist Club of Newark about the Newark Vehicle & Accessory Theft Prevention Program (NVATPP). This program is funded through a grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) and will assist the city in addressing the increase in motor vehicle and motor vehicle accessory theft.

The Newark Police Department received $986,444 in funding from BSCC. The NPD vehicle theft program leverages technology and community partnerships to provide comprehensive, evidence-based public safety services to prevent motor vehicle and vehicle accessory theft.

The NVATP Program goals include:

  • Increasing the number of cases sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution
  • Reducing vehicle and accessory theft in the City of Newark
  • Improving community satisfaction through a Catalytic Converter Label Identification Program
