Newark city council welcomes new city staff

Mayor introduces new hires at council meeting

The City of Newark welcomed four employees at a regular council meeting on Thursday, September 26. Before calling each new hire to the podium, Mayor Mike Hannon expressed his excitement in the potential he believes they each have in making the city better.

“It’s just amazing to me the quality of the employees that we continue to bring into this organization,” said Mayor Hannon.

Angela Tsui is the city’s new Deputy Economic Development Director. She brings over 20 years of public sector experience in economic development across Northern California, with a focus on business growth and fostering small businesses. Before joining the City of Newark, she served as the Economic Development Manager for Walnut Creek and supported similar efforts in cities like Cupertino, Pacific Grove and Menlo Park. Tsui is an Accredited California Economic Developer, holding a bachelor’s degree in political science from UC Berkeley, and is a graduate of the Contra Costa Local Government Leadership Academy.

Narayan Krishnan has been promoted to Senior Information Technology Analyst for the City of Newark. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Pennsylvania State University and previously worked in IT roles at Fremont Unified School District and the San Mateo County Office of Education. Early in his time with the City of Newark, Krishnan showcased his innovation and problem-solving skills by resolving long-standing data network issues and streamlining the city’s network infrastructure.

Missy Gallardo, a Newark native and graduate of Newark Memorial High School, is one of the city’s new Public Safety Dispatchers. After managing her family’s delivery business for 22 years before its closure during COVID, she transitioned to a career serving the Newark community. In 2018, she completed the Newark Police Department Citizens Police Academy, further deepening her commitment to public service.

Ericka Deguzman Quintero, one of the city’s new Public Safety Dispatchers, grew up in Oakland and holds a cosmetology license from Fremont Beauty College. Before joining the City of Newark, she worked for the City of San Leandro, where she processed building and fire permits for residential, industrial and commercial properties.
