New Haven students can enter Earth Day poster contest

Students can now enter the New Haven Schools Foundation’s (NHSF) 2026 Earth Day Poster Contest. The contest is free, and all New Haven Unified School District students, grades kindergarten through eight, are eligible to enter. 

The submission deadline is 11:59pm on April 13. Categories will be divided up into grades K-1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th and 6th-8th. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges consisting of NHSF board members. All decisions are final. 

First, second and third place winners will be selected from each of these grade categories. Each category-level winner will receive a $50 gift card. One overall winner will be selected as the best of the contest and will be awarded a $100 gift card. Second and third place winners will receive a certificate. 

Entries may focus on one of the suggested themes on the submission page, or you may share your own ideas. 

Topic Ideas

Conserve Natural Resources, Reduce Global Warming, Renewable Energy, Compost Food Waste, Prevent Pollution, Building Green, Alternative Energy, Conserve Energy, Protect the Environment, Endangered Species, Reuse Reduce Recycle or Refuse (one topic or all), Earth Day Every Day, Wise Water Use, Waste-Free Lunches or any current topic pertaining to the environment.

Important dates: 

April 13, 2026 – Deadline for submission.

April 25, 2026 – Announcement of winners via our Facebook page

May 2, 2026 – Winners will be recognized at New Haven Day (approximate time, 10am)
