Each June marks the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). The LETR is an international movement of law enforcement personnel who raise funds for the Special Olympics. Law enforcement throughout the nation and internationally carry the Flame of Hope with Special Olympic athletes Hope to the Opening Ceremony.
On Thursday, June 27 local police departments in the Tri-City area will be participating the Torch Run. This year the torch handoffs will be from Union City PD, Fremont PD and Newark PD. Newark will be the last of the Tri-City Police Departments to receive the torch and hand it off to Milpitas Police Department.
Fremont PD will be meeting Newark PD at the Fremont Fire Station 6 on Central Boulevard around 3 p.m. They will then complete their leg of the run nearly two miles to the Newark Police Station on Newark Boulevard where they will be handing off the Flame of Hope to Milpitas.
