On Thursday, June 27 police departments from all over the Tri-City area and beyond came together in support of the Northern California Special Olympics in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). The Law Enforcement Torch Run brings together law enforcement across the country to support and raise awareness to the Special Olympics.

Local police departments completed a two-mile run as they passed the torch, known as the “Flame of Hope,” off to each police department. Within the Tri-City departments, Union City began the long-distance team relay, where they met the Fremont department crew. The Fremont Police Department participants then ran their portion until meeting Newark Police Department at Fremont Fire Station 6 on along Central Avenue. The Newark team continued to take the torch on another two-mile run en route to the Newark Police Station on Newark Boulevard. When reaching the Newark Police Station, Milpitas law enforcement crew received the Fame of Hope.

The LETR culminated in Santa Clara where the Special Olympics Summer Games took place on the July 28 – 30.
