John C. Fremont context: The dark side of a happy city’s namesake

I was pleased to see California senator and presidential candidate, John C. Fremont historically contextualized in the July 16, 2024 issue of the Tri-City Voice. He was a murderer and committed genocide on behalf of the US government. He led the Sacramento River massacre, Klamath Lake massacre and Sutter Buttes massacre. The government who hired him to kill indigenous tribes went on record; displeased about how violent he was. Those killing fields are a part of California history as much as his name is a part of this city.

It was a bit startling to see his image directly under an article about how unflinchingly happy we all are here in Fremont, but again, I am pleased that his cruelty and savagery were mentioned with his name.

  1. Fremont was so awful, the severe crimes and cultural wars make it impossible to concentrate.
People are constantly fearful of expressing themselves. Doctors and other healthcare workers only suppress persons and made it impossible to obtain basic vaccines and checkups.
