Hayward Lions Club packs 20,000 meals in fight against hunger

Sunday event draws over 100 volunteers

The Lions Club of Hayward Silicon Valley partnered with Rise Against Hunger to host a mega meal packing event at the Hayward Veterans Memorial Hall on September 29, resulting in 20,000 meals packaged for those facing food insecurity. Veterans Memorial Hall was filled with excitement and drive as 100 volunteers worked diligently in an organized assembly line setup. Every meal packed with care and positivity comprises a mix of rice, soy protein, dehydrated veggies and an essential pack of vitamins and minerals.

“It’s truly heartwarming to witness the unity of individuals rallying for a noble purpose,” exclaimed Sunil Bhakta with a radiant smile on his face.

Club foundation president Khush Bodhan expressed the significance of the event by saying, “We are not simply packing meals; we are packing our love, compassion and optimism for those kids facing hunger. Every grain of rice symbolizes that they are remembered and cared for.”

The Hayward Silicon Valley Lions Club has had a notable background of serving on an global scale for many years now, supporting schools for special kids, helping pediatric cancer victims, helping a school that provides opportunities for blind women to learn occupational trades and more. Through collaborating with Rise Against Hunger, they guarantee that these meals will be delivered to those in need without any limitations of location.

The event emphasized the value of community engagement and motivated individuals to make a difference by showing that minor acts of kindness can have an impact that extends beyond borders.
