September 14 is both National Cream-Filled Donut Day and National Black & White Cookie Day. Come celebrate this sweet day by joining the Fremont Area Writers free Zoom Social Write-In. FAW’s motto is “Writers Helping Writers.” Everyone from beginners to experienced authors is welcome. This is not a critique session but a chance to stimulate your creativity by responding to writing prompts and then socializing with other people interested in writing. The format is completely non-judgmental.
How the Zoom Write-In Works:
At the Write-In you will be randomly assigned to a Zoom room with three other writers. Writers are given several word or photo prompts (hint: this month a lot of these will center on food). Choose one prompt and write whatever comes to mind for 10 minutes. At the end of the writing period, each person in the room reads their response to the prompt. Because the writing time is short, there is no expectation that the results will be polished or even complete. Time to socialize with the other writers follows the readings. Writers are then reassigned to a different Zoom room with different people and a new writing challenge. Again, stories are shared, followed by socializing.
The Write-In is sponsored by Fremont Area Writers, a branch of the California Writers Club. In addition to the Write-In, FAW meets on Zoom from 2 – 4pm on the fourth Saturday of each month where guest speakers discuss various aspects of writing and publishing. The speaker for the September 24 meeting is Chirstine Meade, award-winning author of the novels The Moon, Her Crown and The Way You Burn. Christine has an MFA from California College of the Arts and teaches novel writing at Grub Street and Gotham Writers Workshop. She will speak on the “mushy middle” of a novel, focusing on how to plan a path through to the final section and how to maintain the creative stamina to reach that point.
You do not need to live in Fremont to join the Write-In or general meetings. Participation in either event is free. More information is available at cwc-fremontareawriters.org
