For families looking for a low-key outdoor activity during the rest of December, Crippsmas Place is up through the end of December. Located in the Westridge neighborhood in Fremont, along Nicolet Avenue from Fremont Boulevard to Wellington Place, lights go on at 6pm each evening.
The displays comprise 80+ homes, with lights and wooden cutouts of popular characters, such as Mickey, Barbie and Big Bird. This year, characters from Wicked will join the fun!
Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit Wellington Court on Dec. 18 and 23, and choirs will also join on special days. Alta Performing Arts will perform Dec. 19, and Tapestry on Dec. 20.
Every year, donations from visitors support local charities: Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments, HERS Breast Cancer Foundation, Adopt an Angel, Ohlone Humane Society’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Fremont Family Resource Center. Charity donations will be collected until Dec. 27.
Crippsmas Place has been brightening the neighborhood since 1967, and many who came as children are now bringing their own children and grandchildren. Lisa Sharp, of the Crippsmas Place Committee, says, “Crippsmas Place is for children and those young at heart.”
