Fremont lights tree, celebrates season

Fremont Street Eats may have ended back in October with a Halloween finale, but the Downtown Event Center was lively on Dec. 6 with the first celebration of “Holidays at the Plaza.” Food trucks and small business vendors lined up around the outdoor event space and local groups like Mission Peak Chamber Singers and Jazzinators performed, while kids participated in face painting and cookie decorating.

Unfortunately, Mayor-elect Raj Salwan was unable to attend, being delayed on the East Coast due to weather. However, former mayor Lily Mei, Vice Mayor Desrie Campbell, Councilmembers Theresa Keng and Kathy Kimberlin and recently elected councilmember Yajing Zhang attended the tree lighting.

Lily Mei said, “Our downtown event center, like this tree, helps us have roots and helps us to blossom and grow. And we hope to be able to celebrate so many more occasions.” She continued, “During the holidays, share your blessings with others and remember to be kind.”
