EnhanceFitness classes return to Senior Center

Fall prevention course focuses on fitness and stability

Spectrum Community Services is thrilled to announce the return of its highly successful EnhanceFitness class at the Ralph & Mary Ruggieri Senior Center, located at 33997 Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City. This essential program, featuring the EnhanceFitness class, will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30am to 10:30am, beginning on August 19 and running through September 20.

EnhanceFitness is one of several Fall Prevention classes that Spectrum offers. It’s an engaging group fitness class where friends keep each other motivated and supported in sticking to a healthy routine. EnhanceFitness is an evidence-based group exercise and falls prevention curriculum designed to help older adults become more active, energized and empowered. With one in four people aged 65 and older experiencing a fall each year in the United States, falls remain the leading cause of injury and death in this age group. The EnhanceFitness program aims to combat this by providing seniors with the tools they need to improve balance and strength, reducing the rate of falls by up to 24%.

A certified EnhanceFitness instructor will safely guide participants through 60 minutes of exercises tailored to enhance overall fitness and stability. Classes included 5-minute warm-up, 20-minute aerobic workout, 5-minute cool-down, 20-minute strength training workout and a 10-minute stretch to keep the muscles flexible. The classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, with exercises that can be performed either seated or standing, ensuring that everyone can participate comfortably and safely.

Registration is required for the program. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up soon to secure their spot. For more information or to register, please visit our website at www.SpectrumCS.org or call 510.876.8809. We ask for a suggested contribution to Spectrum of $28 for the full 5 week, 14 session series. This is asked of both members and non-members of Ruggieri Senior Center. Note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate.

In addition to the EnhanceFitness class, Spectrum Community Services offers daily Senior Meals at the Ralph & Mary Ruggieri Senior Center. We’re proud to support seniors with a holistic approach to healthy living by pairing good eating and with fun movement so they can live their best life and prevent chronic conditions. Participants are invited to join us for the nutritious lunch and socialization after the class.

Spectrum Community Services is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and families experiencing low income. We are excited to bring back this vital program and continue our mission to support the health and well-being of our senior community.
