At around 3pm on Tuesday, Dec. 16, a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 580 sent an unoccupied car into BART tracks.
It is still unclear whether the vehicle was being loaded onto a tow truck or was already on the tow truck before being launched onto Castro Valley BART tracks which lay between the westbound and eastbound interstate.
The crash resulted in the tow truck driver suffering serious injuries and being transported to the hospital.
BART announced services have been stopped between Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations. Damage has been done to the tracks which may take some time to repair before BART trains can be used again.
