Dream of recounting your life in a memoir but intimidated by the idea of writing an entire book? A personal essay—dramatic, entertaining, or thought-provoking, and drawn from real life—can be a way to satisfy that desire. On August 24, award-winning essayist David W. Berner will present a free Zoom talk on how to compose a successful personal essay.
David Berner (www.davidwberner.com) is a man of many talents—a multi-published personal essayist, fiction and nonfiction author, a poet, singer/songwriter/musician, former Chicago broadcast journalist, and retired associate professor at Columbia College Chicago. His nonfiction books include Accidental Lessons, Any Road Will Take You There, and Daylight Saving Time, which has garnered four awards already this year.
New York Times best-selling author James Dodson called Brener’s book Walks with Sam, “a moving memoir about how a young dog can teach an old man new tricks about mindfulness and presence.” Brener has been writer-in-residence at the Jack Kerouac Project in Orlando, Florida, and at the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Home and Museum in Oak Park, Illinois. He currently teaches writing at the Gotham Writers Workshop in New York City.
Fremont Area Writers (FAW) is one of 22 branches of the California Writers Club. It meets on Zoom from 2pm to 4pm on the fourth Saturday of each month. The meetings are free and open to the public. You do not need to live in Fremont to attend. FAW’s motto is “writers helping writers.” We welcome everyone who has an interest in writing from aspiring beginners to published professionals.
