For those who want to get into group cycling but don’t know where to start, Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club (FFBC) will hold a training series on how to ride on the road safely, meet other riders and enjoy the beautiful California scenery uniquely experienced on a bike.
The series is appropriate for all levels and will cover group cycling essentials such as ride etiquette, flat tire repair, stretching and hand signals. These are “no-drop” rides; experienced riders will stay to help anyone experiencing issues.
Traditional bikes and e-bikes (Class 1 or 3) are allowed. Class 2 (full throttle) e-bikes are not. Riders younger than 18 must have a waiver signed by their parents/guardians. Waivers are available at the start of each ride. Riders younger than 16 years old must be accompanied by their parents/guardians.
Dates and locations:
June 1: Fremont Schwinn Cyclery, 4040 Papazian Way
June 8: CentriPEDAL Bikes, 3636 Thornton Ave.
June 15: CentriPEDAL Bikes, 3636 Thornton Ave.
June 22: Warm Springs Community Center, 47300 Fernald St.
June 29: Palms Pavilion Parking Lot (Aqua Adventure), 40500 Paseo Padre Pkwy.
The series begins with a short, flat ride gradually working up to longer, more intense rides.
Registration is not required, but an RSVP helps FFBC coordinate the number of riders each week. Non-club members are welcome, but will be requested to join after their first ride.
